Arsenal morning news: Van Persie in shock return link; away form may hand Gunners title

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates this morning.

Robin van Persie is being linked with a sensational return to Arsenal this morning. The Manchester United striker left the club in the summer of 2012 in order to help his pursuit of silverware.

He won the Premier League title in his first season at the club but it is reported today that he may reconsider his position at the club in the summer.

United boss Moyes plans to have a mass makeover of the club in the summer and it is believed he has an ‘uneasy relationship’ with the Dutch striker.

RVP is said to be struggling to adapt to life in the post Ferguson regime and his family are said to miss London.

Whether Arsenal fans would take to his return is another story entirely.

Meanwhile Arsene Wenger believes that Manchester City’s form away from The Etihad could be their downfall this season.

Arsenal are battling City for the Premier League title this year and Wenger believes that City, who are in rampant form, will not be jaunting their way to glory in 2014:

“They are the team of the moment so everybody is drawing definite conclusions,’ said Wenger. ‘I don’t deny their strength, quality and the exceptional players they have. But let’s not forget they have lost four away games.”

Arsenal team news now ahead of the tie against Crystal Palace today. Arsenal are without Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby through long-term injuries - while Yaya Sanogo is back in training but lacking match fitness.

Mathieu Flamini is suspended while Aaron Ramsey is out for six weeks with a thigh injury.

Jack Wilshere is a doubt with an ankle problem.

Kim Kallstrom will not be out for three months. It has emerged that Arsenal were aware of his back problem, picked up playing beach football in Abu Dhabi, before signing him - and estimations of three months out are way off the mark.
