2010 quotes that could come back to haunt United and Arsenal in £21m winger chase

Antoine Griezmann

Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich are said to be taking an interest in Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann.

Manchester United and Arsenal are two teams expected to delve into the winter transfer window next month and one player who is reportedly on that January radar is Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann. The young man himself confirmed United interest in his services in October, stating:

‘’I know that some English clubs are looking at me and Manchester United is on that list. It’s nice to hear that but it doesn’t influence my work.”

But recently the team has changed from United to Arsenal - with The Gunners linked with his signature both here and in France.

At the end of the campaign it is already apparent that he will be leaving Sociedad. The recent arrival of Sergio Canales from Valencia also hints at Sociedad bracing themselves for the worst in regards to his future with the club.

Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keen on the player - to whom his £21 million release clause is mere pocket money.

So the Premier League teams already have some serious competition for his signature - they certainly did not need anymore.

But that seems to now be the case - with Bayern Munich looking interested.

Pep Guardiola tried to sign the player when he was Barcelona coach - but Griezmann rejected the move as he didn’t want to play in the Barcelona B team.

The Bayern Munich boss stated in 2010:

"Considering that this is his first season in the league, he makes amazing things. He cuts through the defence, has power and knows very well how to break into the box."

Bayern are a team constantly striving to improve - and with rumours of Xerdan Shaqiri potentially considering his future at the club - and Arjen Robben not getting any younger, a winger seems a good option.

For the Premier League teams that are keen this is certainly not good news. Bayern Munich have got used to winning both on and off the pitch recently - and if they want the winger the chances are they will sign him.

So the fact Guardiola is such a keen fan can only come as bad news.
