Newcastle fans will not have enjoyed the January transfer window very much after having to watch key playmaker Yohan Cabaye complete a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Tyneside club’s attempts to sign countryman Clement Grenier as a replacement were unsuccessful, and as such Alan Pardew will need to come up with a strategy to replace the talented France international.

Cabaye made his PSG debut on Friday night, coming off the bench in a 2-0 win for the Ligue 1 leaders against Bordeaux at the Parc des Princes.

The former Newcastle man replaced Javier Pastore after 68 minutes.

Cabaye made the move to the French capital in a bid to battle for silverware and enhance his chances of ensuring a spot in the national squad for this summer’s World Cup.

PSG extended their lead the table’s summit to six points with the victory, with goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alex enough to secure victory.
