Manchester United morning news: High-hopes for trio; RvP ‘decides when he is fit’

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

So…it was all a bit disappointing really. After the excitement of the summer transfer deadline day, January’s closed with similar fanfare but considerably less action.

For Manchester United, they had completed their one and only piece of business with almost a week to spare, and David Moyes was visibly relaxed as a result, warning Sky Sports News that their reporters were wasting their time standing outside the gates of that particular club.

One report that has remerged this morning is the one linking Andros Townsend with a switch to Old Trafford, with the Mirror claiming United and Tottenham entered negotiations over a possible swap deal involving Nani, only for the North London side to soon reject the deal.

While another transfer window is now well and truly closed, United are likely to be in the market for some new wingers next summer.

But they appear well-stocked in the striking department now, and David Moyes believes Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie have the potential to be the best front-three in England in due course.

In quotes published by Goal, Moyes said, “I think they will be when we get them ready and totally match fit all of them and gelled together.”

Speaking of match-fit, the Telegraph reports on quotes from Moyes in which he reveals van Persie will now decide if he is fit and able to play for the reigning champions.

I have taken Robin’s advice where he feels he is at,” Moyes said. “I ask him if he is ready to play and how long does he feel he is able to play.

All the things I am doing, I am taking from Robin.”
