Kallstrom was injured BEFORE Arsenal signed him - report

The news today has been that Kim Kallstrom has suffered a back injury ... but it remains disputed when he picked up the problem.

Yesterday saw Arsenal snap up Swedish international Kim Kallstrom from Spartak Moscow on loan for the rest of the season.

A strange deal, many a fan was sceptical as to the impact he might have at the club - although it soon emerged he was being brought in to cover for injury and suspension worries.

Which is why today, when the news broke that he himself has a back injury, many a fan shook their head.

Kallstrom was reported to have picked up an injury in his first training session for the club - and would be out for three months!

The three months is no longer believed to be an accurate timescale - three weeks or even three days seems to be much more likely.

But still it seems very unfortunate that he would pick up an injury so soon after arriving.

This is why the most recent updates on the matter are very interesting - and make sense.

It is reported he has picked up a back injury - and Arsenal press officer Mark Gonella reportedly informed the site:

“Kim has hurt his back. He is currently being examined. Arsenal will talk more about it tomorrow.”

But it is also being reported that he was injured already - BEFORE Arsenal signed him.

Aftonbladet report that Kallstrom injured his back in a beach football session for his former club in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

An MRI scan on his medical showed no issue - but a CT scan showed minor damage to his lower back.

No timescale has been given for his return - but Gonella has ruled out the original two to three months:

“I think two or three months is a little excessive. I am not in a position to evaluate it, our medical team will do that.”

We should find out more tomorrow for Arsene Wenger - but the already challenged suitability of his addition will receive more criticism and scrutiny if his injury does prove severe.
