Prior to Chelsea’s £12million signing of Kurt Zouma, another defender was also linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.
That player was Inter Milan’s Andrea Ranocchia, who was tipped by the Independent for a possible swap-deal involving David Luiz.
Of course no such move materialised, and the Brazilian is probably developing something of a complex considering the amount of times he has been linked with the Chelsea exit. But while the English transfer window has now closed, the Turkish one remains open, and it is being reported by Football Italia that Ranocchia could move to Galatasaray prior to 10:00pm tonight.
Back in December, reports in Italy claimed that it was not just Chelsea who were interested in the 25-year-old Italy international, but also Arsenal and Manchester United.
But it could be a former manager of Manchester City who finally gets the player, with Roberto Mancini still having a few more hours to seal a deal or two at the Turkish club.
Jose Mourinho will probably not be losing any sleep over it. After all, in Zouma he has signed one of the most exciting young defensive talents in Europe, and in time he should become a stalwart in the Blues’ defence.
But for Ranocchia, a move is still possible, at least for a few more hours.
