Arsenal’s January transfer window was taken up with talk of a mega-bid for Julian Draxler and the hunt for another striker to take some of the burden away from Olivier Giroud.
However, the underwhelming loan signing of Kim Kallstrom was the only addition to Arsene Wenger’s squad before the window shut.
One man that has found a new club that could well have solved the Gunners’ striking problems is Salomon Rondon.
The Venezuela international has put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract with Zenit St Petersburg, moving from Rubin Kazan for an undisclosed fee.
The north London club have been linked with the former Malaga frontman for some time, with reports even emerging earlier last month that Arsenal were keeping tabs on the South American.
With potential loan deals for Miroslav Klose and Mirko Vucinic also falling through at the last minute, Arsenal fans will look at Rondon as another striker that has got away.
Rondon becomes the first black player to play for Zenit since the Landscrona fans group called for all non-white players to be excluded from the team.
