Valencia's Ever Banega was allowed to go on loan back to Argentina.
Ever Banega had been linked with a transfer away from Valencia since even last summer, and the Argentine has finally got his wish.
Instead the central midfielder has been allowed to leave to go on loan back to Argentina with Newell's Old Boys, his hometown club.
For the 25-year-old, it is in many ways a dream transfer, for he will be provided the platform to impress in his homeland ahead of the World Cup and stake a claim for late inclusion in the tournament's squad.
The deal, reported on and confirmed by FIFA will likely cause a number of European clubs to wonder whether they could have done more to try and attract him.
Banega would actually have been ideal for Manchester United. Versatile in his approach, he is able to play as a defensive midfielder as well as in an attacking role - making five starts in attack compared to eight as a DM this season for Valencia.
With 23 caps and two goals for his country to his name, Banega averaged 2.1 tackles per game in La Liga this season, a stat which is not bettered by any Manchester United midfielder in the Premier League.
While David Moyes telling journalists they could stand down their cameras from Old Trafford at midday yesterday, we can't help but wonder whether it would have been worth their while to keep working at deals and try and bring in a talent like Banega on loan.
