WBA transfer news: Guerra bid, Bifouma loan, permanent deal for Almeida ?

West Brom The Hawthorns

Here's all the latest WBA transfer news and gossip, as we enter the final day of the January transfer window.

New WBA boss Pepe Mel has been scouring the Iberian Peninsula as he looks for help to push WBA back up the table and away from a possible relegation scrap.

Spanish newspaper AS has reported that WBA has bid for Real Valladolid striker Javi Guerra. The 31-year-old is out of contract this summer. The striker has netted 11 La Liga goals in 21 starts – eight more than Valladolid’s next highest. The newspaper also reports that the Spanish club have sounded out Mallorca’s Victor Casadesus as a potential replacement, as it’s almost certain that Javi Guerra will be leaving the club on deadline day.

West Brom are also said to be interested in Espanyol’s 21-year-old forward Thievy Bifouma. The French U21 international joined the Spanish club in 2010 and can play both as a wide left forward or through the middle.

Despite a successful loan spell last season, Bifouma has found first-team opportunities hard to come by so far this campaign. After making just two La Liga starts, Espanyol are willing to loan the player out to a non-Spanish side - with WBA finding themselves in pole position for his signature.

Another Iberian player linked with a move to the Midlands is Benfica’s utility man Andre Almeida. The 23-year-old is a Portuguese midfielder who can play in both fullback positions – a player who will offer WBA cover in a number of roles. Almeida has two international caps to his name and was a reported target for Pepe Mel when he was managing Real Betis.

A bola has suggested that WBA were interested in taking the player on loan with an option to buy in the summer. However Benfica are thought to be holding out for a permanent deal.

Would these players help West Bromwich Albion stay in the Premier League ?
