Manuel Pellegrini’s charges have been quiet over the space of the last month, but there is outside chances of a couple of deals being concluded today.
Due to the star-studded nature of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad, rumours over potential additions in the window have been few and far between.
However, of late, a number of potential deals have been spoken about in the British press. Here are three new faces that could well arrive at the Etihad Stadium after the conclusion of a frantic deadline day.
Talk of a potential double swoop for Porto duo Mangala and Fernando has been rife in the British press over the last couple of days, with The Mirror stating that a £46 million double deal could be in the offing on deadline day.
Mangala would consist the bulk of this fee, with a whopping £38m thought to be allocated to bring the star central defender to England.
The Porto man would surely form an uncompromising duo alongside City skipper Vincent Kompany, and is said to be in the gaze of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The talented midfielder is the other part of the proposed deadline day deal, with a bid in the region of £8 million believed to be enough to convince the Estadio do Dragao outfit to sell.
Fernando is out of contract at the end of the season, and looks set to leave Portugal for one of the major European leagues.
A bid on deadline day could convince Porto to sell, but just where Fernando would fit in at City remains to be seen.
Fernandinho and Yaya Toure have formed a wonderful pairing in the centre of the park for Pellegrini’s men, with a host of other midfielders in the squad also.
The France international midfielder is also out of contract at the end of the season, and is yet to sign a new deal at Paris Saint-Germain. Matuidi has been the subject of plenty of rumours, with a host of Premier League clubs thought to be interested.
City have been one of the club most frequently mentioned with Matuidi, who is available to sign a pre-contract agreement now and move to a new club in the summer.
However, with PSG risking losing their star for nothing in a couple of months time, Laurent Blanc could well be persuaded to accept a bid on deadline day.
Yohan Cabaye has moved to the Parc des Princes this week, and would be an ideal replacement for Matuidi should he leave.
