We take a look at three players Paul Lambert should pursue on deadline day, including a Leicester City winger, Manchester United playmaker and a Dutch international.
Deadline Day is upon us and for Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert, it may have come a little too soon.
Talking to The Express and Star the Villa manager admitted to sweating on new faces coming in before deadline day, but reiterated that he is working hard behind the scene.
''There are about 15 things I'm trying to do at the minute,'' said Lambert.
''If one comes off, great. If none come off it's fine.''
However, the former Norwich City manager did dismiss links to Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby.
With the clock working against him, we thought we could push him in the right direction with a few suggestions.
Anthony Knockaert - Leicester City
22-year-old French winger Knockaert has been at the heart of Leicester City's terrific form in the Championship for the past two years. This season in particular, he has both scored and created four goals, playing a major part in their impressive table topping form.
Signed from French side Guingamp in 2012, the East Midlands side made full use of their scouting network when bringing the French youth star in.
He is ready made for Premier League football, without question. And along with his already proven capabilities, he has a lot of scope to progress further in the future.
Here is an exquisite free-kick he scored against East Midlands rivals Derby County earlier this season.
Jesse Lingard - Manchester United
Since Manchester United have signed Juan Mata from Chelsea, it stands to reason that 21-year-old England U21 international Jesse Lingard could head for the Old Trafford exit once again.
Lingard has already proven himself more than capable at Championship level and it could be time for him to test his Premier League potential, which a loan move to VIlla could offer.
Arguably a better option than Lambert's first choice Wes Hoolahan, the young midfielder is a hub of goals and creativity. Whilst on loan to Aston Villa rivals Birmingham City, he scored six and created three goals in just thirteen league games.
A potential star for the future, but someone Villa could benefit from now.
Here is the highlight reel of his goalscoring pre-season with Manchester United.
Jens Toornstra - FC Utrecht
And it wouldn't be Villa without throwing in an unknown name into the mix and that is FC Utrecht star Jens Toornstra.
A 25-year-old attacking midfielder with Dutch international caps to his name, he offers everything that Lambert could want in a potential signing.
He has scored eight goals in the Eredivisie this season, with one assists, although that doesn't paint the whole picture because he has created the sixth most chances out of all the players in the division, with an impressive 44 in 20 games. He is also renowned in Holland as a free-kick and set-piece specialist, which is always a huge bonus to any side, and here is why...
