Report: Atletico Madrid make '€13m bid' for Argentine striker, earlier linked to Arsenal

According to reports in Argentina, Atletico Madrid have made a €13 million bid to sign San Lorenzo striker Angel Correa.

The 18-year-old has reportedly been scouted by Barcelona and Arsenal in recent months but could be on his way to the Spanish capital to join Atletico Madrid if reports in Argentine sports publication Ole are accurate.

The Mirror reported Arsenal's interest in the teenager back in November.

“We’ll have to see [if Correa could be sold], it’s a possibility because there is a firm offer for the player,” San Lorenzo president Lammens Matias is quoted as stating over the player’s future.

The young striker is from the same town as Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, no pressure there then, and there may be just as big shoes to try and fill at his prospective club.

Atletico Madrid are likely to look at long-term options when it comes to covering themselves in case Diego Costa leaves the club.

Diego Costa has been linked with interest from all over the continent, most prominently in the Premier League where Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have been suggested as possible destinations for the 25-year-old Brazilian.

Costa has been in sensational form for Atletico Madrid this term, scoring 24 goals in all competitions and would, thus, seem like an impossible player to replace as Atletico fight for the La Liga title this term.

It seems unlikely that an 18-year-old prospect from Argentina could fill Costa’s boots but when he comes from the same town as Messi and Di Maria, I wouldn’t necessarily rule it out. So far in the Argentine top tier he has managed four goals and three assists which is some distance short of Costa’s tally for Atletico.

It remains unknown as to whether the youngster will be considered as an eventual replacement for the Brazil striker but, at least for this transfer window, I would suspect it’s unlikely.
