Accomplished midfielder Kim Kallstrom, a veteran international with 108 Swedish caps to his name, has joined Arsenal on a temporary basis until the end of the season following a successful dialogue with Spartak Moscow after the Gunners hit a dead end in their attempted capture of Schalke 04 star Julian Draxler.
Arsenal allayed concerns that Kallstrom, who has participated in the Europa League already this term with Spartak, would not be available for their own European campaign but a statement indicated that he would be available to compete in the Champions League.
On how the loan deal materialised, Kallstrom disclosed, as quoted by the club's official website: 'Yesterday I was in Abu Dhabi with Spartak Moscow and I got a phone call asking if I would like to go to Arsenal on loan for a few months.
'I thought ‘Absolutely, why not?’. So I quickly went back to the hotel, got my stuff and went to the airport as fast as I could! I flew into London today. Now I just want to settle down as fast as I can and prepare for the games ahead.'
He added that the club's reputation amongst Swedish Gunners of yesteryear such as Fredrik Ljungberg, Sebastian Larsson and Rami Shaaban only fortified his desire to join: 'The previous Swedish players at Arsenal only had good things to say about the Club. For all of them there were a lot of nice memories. In Sweden and all around the world.
'Arsenal are a club with a very positive atmosphere about them.'
