Manchester City latest: Big injury blow, double-deal off, Lescott & Richards set to stay

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Despite the news earlier today that Manchester City were discussing a possible move with FC Porto for duo Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando, it was not to be, with various media outlets reporting this evening that no deal will happen in what is left of this transfer window.

The Express claims the Portuguese club are not prepared to part company with either player until the summer – so expect the rumours to start again around June; although in the case of Fernando, he will be a free agent if no new contract is signed in the interim.

In other transfer news, the Daily Mail reports that Joleon Lescott is set to run his current contract down after failing to secure a January move.

Lescott has had interest from a number of clubs but is yet to agree a move, and unless something happens swiftly prior to 11:00pm, the England international looks set to remain at the Etihad Stadium for a few more months yet.

The Manchester Evening News reports Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers’ denial that he made a loan move for Micah Richards. So it seems there will be no more departures from the Blues this season.

And finally, the Blues have suffered a major blow with the news that Sergio Aguero will miss the next month with a hamstring injury.

The striker has been in majestic form since he returned from a previous spell on the side-lines, but he will now miss vital matches in the league, FA Cup and the Champions League.
