Manchester United have been linked heavily with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos over the past couple of days.
It all seemed to kick into gear when David Moyes was spotted taking in a Bayern Munich game against Borussia Monchengladbach recently - sitting alongside the German international’s agent.
When it emerged Kroos’ contract talks over an extension to the final 18 months of his current deal had reached a stalemate it seemed he might just be on the way.He then made things worse after seemingly storming off after being substituted against VfB Stuttgart.
Of course his boss Pep Guardiola did not help with these comments over the player:
"He is an important player but things can move fast in football. Here today, gone tomorrow.”
Of course it was a potential deal that had fans salivating. Kroos is a highly talented player and something of a regular in the Bayern side, despite the strength in depth in Bavaria.
He would certainly be an expensive acquisition for the club - but one who would bring more creativity to the side along with the recent arrival of Juan Mata, however from a slightly deeper position.
Since the summer one German based journalist that you seem able to trust is Jan Age Fjortoft. The Norwegian former Swindon Town forward is now based in Germany - and gained some notoriety by being the first journalist to break the news that Arsenal had signed Mesut Ozil in the summer.
He has also had some misses of course - however one of his most recent Tweets, on the subject of Kroos, seems to make a lot of sense.
He has spoken to a source in Munich who tells him…
Asked my source in Munich to tell me in % how likely Kroos move is: 1. Now? 2. Summer? His answer: 1. 0 % 2. 60 %— Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) January 31, 2014
So it seems he is going nowhere in January - and in reality it appears that nobody knows about his future come the summer.
But for now, it looks like Kroos is staying put … and United must look elsewhere if they are planning to add before 11pm tonight.
