‘Kallstrom is not a Wenger signing; Draxler would have been great’ says Redknapp

Arsene Wenger Big Coat

Former England international Jamie Redknapp has been speaking about the latest transfer rumours regarding Arsenal.

With Arsenal linked with a whole host of players on this transfer deadline day – most recently Kim Kallstrom and Miroslav Klose – Gunners fans will be eagerly checking their phones and watching Sky Sports News to see if Arsene Wenger can make it another transfer deadline day to remember.

Speaking to that very channel earlier today, Jamie Redknapp had his say on the latest rumours.

On the hunt for a potential new front-man, Redknapp said, “It is very hard to get the striker you want.

“Diego Costa at Atletico Madrid, he is a fantastic player. Is he going to come to Arsenal and not be in the starting eleven, because the system they play with one up, Giroud is the main man there.

You want someone who is going to come in and be happy to play second fiddle.”

Klose is unlikely to be that man, but his experience could be the difference between trophies and disappointment come May.

But it was another German who Redknapp thought would have been a far better option for Arsenal.

I thought Draxler would have been a great signing,” the former Liverpool midfielder said. “He fits the bill for Arsene Wenger.

They are talking about Kim Kallstrom now, who is completely not an Arsene Wenger signing really at 31 years of age. But he is a very talented footballer, he’s got a magic wand of a left foot.”

When asked what a Kallstrom arrival would mean for Arsenal fans, Redknapp added, “I don’t think it will excite them too much. When Mesut Ozil signed that day...the lift it gave everyone.

I did expect Arsene Wenger to get a really big name into the training ground but it looks like that may not happen now, but you never know. He might have a little surprise for us later on, we have to wait and see.”

Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping that is the case…
