Berbatov linked to move away from Fulham, not Tottenham!

Dimitar Berbatov could be moving to French side AS Monaco on deadline day.

Dimitar Berbatov has been linked with a move away from Fulham, and it was thought former club Tottenham Hotspur were in pole position for the Bulgarian.

The Telegraph had reported that Spurs officials were working to bring Berbatov back to White Hart Lane as the prepare for Jermain Defoe's impending departure to FC Toronto.

However it now seems that Berbatov could be heading abroad, with The Mail reporting that a deal with Monaco is on the cards.

Monaco are of course in the market for a striker, having lost Radamel Falcao to injury. He suffered a knee injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season and the World Cup. It was thought they may keep Lacina Traore instead of letting him leave on loan, but he did go on to join Everton.

It now seems as if they are trying to bring in former United striker Berbatov. This would be a much more exciting opportunity in his eyes, as he will be battling for the Ligue 1 title rather than fighting relegation with Fulham.

The Cottagers will hope to replace Berbatov with Kostas Mitroglou from Olympiakos. They have agreed a fee in the region of £11 million, but West Ham United have now joined the race for the Greece international.

The Berbatov deal to Monaco could well hinge on whether Fulham can bring in another striker. Tottenham will have to turn their attentions elsewhere if Dimitar does indeed join Monaco.
