Three players Liverpool could sign on Deadline Day

Liverpool will be looking to add reinforcements to sustain their challenge for a Champions League place this season.

Liverpool have been frustrated in the January transfer window so far. Last season they brought in two players who had a significant impact on their season and have continued their good form this term in the form of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge.

This January, nobody has come through the door at Anfield despite Brendan Rodgers’ best efforts as key target Mohamed Salah joined Chelsea from Basel, when it was well known the Reds boss was keen on the 21-year-old.

So his attentions have moved elsewhere and he wants to see at least one major signing come through the door before he deadline.

Their ambitions of Champions League football could be dented if they fail to land anyone in this transfer window.

With only one day to go and the deadline fast approaching, who can Liverpool sign?

Yevhen Konoplyanka

The most obvious and realistic target that Liverpool can bring in before the deadline but they are reported to face competition from Tottenham and French Champions Paris Saint Germain.

If Ian Ayre has flown out to Ukraine for talks then it shows you Liverpool are deadly serious about getting the deal done with the fee said to be between £15m and £20m. It is evident that Liverpool want to bring in a winger to add to their attacking options given the interest in Salah previously.

Isaac Cuenca

An interesting rumour as it seems that Cuenca’s first team options at Barcelona are limited with coach Gerardo Martino hinting Cuenca could head towards the exit door. Arsenal are also rumoured to be interested in the player, but one would think another striker is not high on Liverpool’s list of priorities. One worry for Liverpool, if they were to sign him, is that it he suffered a bad knee injury less than a year ago.

Nigel De Jong

It was interesting that midfielder Lucas Leiva has urged Brendan Rodgers to sign the midfielder and is quoted telling ESPN Brazil:

‘If he comes it will be good for the squad because it's important to have a strong squad.

‘I believe that if anyone comes who plays in my position it will not be because of my injury but rather to strengthen the squad.’

If you ask many Liverpool fans they would say the central midfield area does need strengthening given the injury to Lucas and that Joe Allen hasn't had a substantial run of games without getting injured. Despite reports being dismissed in the past from the club, things can change. And with Milan signing Michael Essien, will there be a late move for De Jong?
