At his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Manchester City on Monday night: ‘We like the profile we think can be very much adapted to the Premier League.’
The Chelsea manager confirmed the 19-year-old will stay on loan with the Ligue 1 side until the end of the season and didn’t rule out a potential loan move for the player. However Mourinho added that Zouma does have the physical presence necessary to succeed in the Premier League.
‘Pre-season he will join us, we will see if it is to stay or to go on loan but he’s a young player in a position we need the future. Job done and he stays at St Etienne.
‘One thing is [for him] to be physically ready the other is to be tactically ready.
‘He’s very young but he’s played already a couple of seasons in St Etienne and many international matches [at youth level].’
Mourinho praised the club for getting the deal done and indicated that Zouma is very much a player for the future.
‘In every position we have the present but also the future so well done Chelsea. No more business.’
Zouma becomes the third high profile signing at Stamford Bridge this window following Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah.
