Fiorentina have completed a loan move for Sunderland defender Modibo Diakitè after a successful conclusion to negotiations this morning.
The Viola have been looking for defensive reinforcements to solidify their back-line as they attempt to secure Champions League qualification.
A number of names had been suggested and there were reports that Manchester United man Nemanja Vidic was a target but his wage demands were too high.
Diakitè is a known entity to Fiorentina as he played extensively in Serie A for Lazio between 2006 and last June when he signed for Sunderland.
Standing at six foot four, Diakitè is a huge aerial presence and that could be an asset for Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella.
Diakitè never quite fitted in at Sunderland and has only made six appearances, so a loan switch to the Stadio Artemio Franchi was a logical solution.
He will return at the end of the season unless Fiorentina successfully negotiate a permanent deal with Sunderland.
