Chelsea transfer news: £12.5m signing close, Atletico Madrid swap deal unlikely

A round up of the latest transfer stories about Chelsea.

Chelsea are close to completing the £12.5 million signing of 19-year-old defender Kurt Zouma from Saint-Etienne.

Zouma has been linked with the Blues, as well as other Premier League sides, for most of this month but a deal today now looks inevitable.

Zouma is likely to be loaned back to the Ligue One side for the rest of the season.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has played down talk of a swap deal for Atletico Madrid star Diego Costa.

Several reports have suggested that Chelsea could offer up goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to make sure that they sign the £32 million rated Costa.

“Courtois is our player. I can’t say anything about Costa,” the Portuguese coach is quoted by the Daily Mirror.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair says he would be amazed if club captain John Terry didn’t sign a new deal with the club.

Terry has been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, something which Sinclair doesn’t believe will happen.

“I would be amazed if John doesn’t sign a new contract. I believe behind-the-scenes conversations are being had and I expect the player, manager and the club are comfortable to do it when they are good and ready,” he told West London Sport.
