Chelsea starlet set to follow Essien to Italy - report

SS Lazio fans

Reports in both Italy and latterly in England claim Chelsea midfielder Gael Kakuta is set for a move to Lazio.

After Michael Essien completed his move to AC Milan, Chelsea fans may have thought that was the last of the outgoings, but it is being reported in Italy that Gael Kakuta is being lined up as a replacement for the outgoing Hernanes at Lazio.

Hernanes is set to complete a move to Inter Milan, leaving his current club weaker in midfield. And Forza Italian Football have picked up on reports from Sky Italia claiming Kakuta is seen as a viable option.

Kakuta has spent much of his time on loan – most recently at Vitesse Arnhem – but he has failed to live up to the considerable expectation that followed his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The Metro has gone one step further this afternoon, reporting that the Blues have agreed to sell Kakuta for what they call “a nominal fee” on a three-year-deal.

Kakuta has big shoes to fill if he is being signed as a direct replacement for Hernanes. The latter has enjoyed an outstanding spell in Serie A and was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League earlier this month.

Still, this could be the move that finally sees Kakuta fulfil his considerable potential.
