The protracted transfer saga that has engulfed column inches dedicated to Arsenal and the future of FC Schalke 04 forward Julian Draxler was 'created by the media', rather than any official at the Emirates Stadium, according to Arsene Wenger, who added at a press conference recently that the talented German will remain with his current club.
The news will serve as a disappointment to excited Arsenal supporters who had been dreaming of a dramatic deadline day acquisition akin to the capture of erstwhile Real Madrid trequartista Mesut Ozil, who Wenger purchased at the eleventh hour last summer in a club-record deal.
Since the Draxler revelation, it had been speculated that the Gunners may turn to Barcelona in order to prise 22-year-old forward Cristian Tello away from Camp Nou, but face competition from Liverpool, who are also eager to recruit the Spaniard even if it was on a loan basis, as reported by the Daily Star.
Spanish football expert, Sky Sports pundit and AS journalist Guillem Balague has bad news for both Premier League sides as he alludes to the fact that Tello remains in the club's plans as they do not want to allow the player a move away from Barcelona on a permanent or a loan deal.
Barcelona have got no intention of getting rid of Tello on loan or otherwise. He stays at the club— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) January 31, 2014
