Chelsea and Arsenal target lauded: 'Reminds me of Chris Waddle'

Florian Thauvin

Florent Thauvin has been compared to the former Tottenham star.

Florent Thauvin is one of France's most controversial young talents.

He signed for Lille last January from Bastia, only to force a transfer to Marseille in the summer.

So it is no surprise that the 21-year-old finds himself linked with a move away from the Velodrome, for clubs can see already that if a better offer comes, he will jump.

ESPN reported earlier this week that Chelsea had scouted the winger, while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a confessed long-term admirer.

Fans of English football will no doubt take note of the latest comparison lauded upon the winger.

Alain Casnova is the current manager of Toulouse, who comes up against him this weekend, and he has compared Thauvin to a former Spurs icon.

Le10Sport report: "I love his dribbling qualities, its ability to accelerate and re-accelerate. He reminds me a little of Chris Waddle in his swaying, his attitudes.

"He seems to go faster with the ball than without, that is exactly what we are asking this type of player."

Ex-Spurs star Waddle of course spent three seasons in Marseille between 1989 and 1992, winning a trio of Ligue 1 titles before moving back to England with Sheffield Wednesday.

We know Thauvin, who has six goals this season for l'OM to his name has the footballing credentials, but if he really wants to be compared to Waddle, maybe it's time for him to bring back the mullet and release a dodgy pop record.
