The Gunners have been focusing their attentions on Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler this week, and whilst a move for the German international could be drawing closer, Wenger could be lining up another late transfer window swoop as Vucinic prepares for a switch to North London.
The Italian press suggest that Montenegrin forward Vucinic will fly to London today in order to undergo a medical ahead of his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, with the former Roma striker heading to Arsenal on a six-month loan deal from Serie A side Juventus.
The 30-year-old was seemingly heading for a move to Inter Milan last week, as the two Italian sides negotiated a swap deal involving Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin, but the deal fell apart, leaving Vucinic in the wilderness – particularly after he turned down a move to Russia with Zenit St. Petersburg.
With Theo Walcott out injured for the rest of the season and Olivier Giroud needing help up front, the rumoured addition of Vucinic would certainly strengthen Wenger's options across the frontline, and his short-term stay at the Emirates Stadium will tide the club over until the summer, where bigger name players will be available for the club to target.
Arsenal fans have, however seen early reports of false medicals occur before. Gonzalo Higuain was said to be jetting in for a medical last summer, reported by several British newspapers no less. Alvaro Morata was even claimed earlier this month to be due in when speculation over his signature reached a frenzy.
If Vucinic makes it over and undergoes his medical, photographic proof will be what's needed to re-assure fans at this late stage of the window it isn't another false dawn.
