Luke Shaw has been in brilliant form this season – comparing admirably with England’s best left-backs Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines.
The 18-year-old Southampton youth product has started 20 Premier League games so far this campaign – Southampton’s joint-second highest behind midfielder Adam Lallana.
Luke Shaw recently demonstrated his ability during Southampton’s entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal. The left-back spent the game marauding down the left flank, beating Bacary Sagna for pace as he delivered an incredible 11 crosses over the 90 minutes.
Chelsea were linked with a £20m bid at the beginning of the transfer window – yet boss Mauricio Pochettino has since issued a hands-off warning.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho will see Shaw as the ideal replacement for the ageing Ashley Cole – as the Special One continues his long-term building process at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United on the other will be looking to replace Partice Evra – who will surely depart this summer. David Moyes is ready to go to battle with Chelsea – with the Mail suggesting that the Red Devils will attempt to sign the player for £30m next summer.
However, Shaw’s team-mate James Ward-Prowse was quoted by Sky Sports saying he feels the left-back should ignore the temptation for now – instead developing his game at Southampton:
“Obviously there is a little bit of banter flying around about the headlines, but that is just normal in football.”
“His feet are on the ground, his head at the right place at the moment,
“He is settled, that is the main thing. You can see the fans love him as well, which is a good thing. This is the best club to be at at the moment.”
