Mijatovic: Former Spurs player is Real Madrid’s best – not Bale

Former Real Madrid star Predrag Mijatovic has hailed Luka Modric as Real Madrid’s finest player alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite not being the flashiest player at Real Madrid, Luka Modric has certainly won his fair share of praise since moving to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2012.

The 28-year-old has consistently performed to a very high standard alongside Xabi Alonso – and the way the two have driven the side on makes you wonder where Sami Khedira will fit in when he returns from his lengthy lay-off.

Despite not finding the net so far this campaign in La Liga, Modric has assisted six and registered a total of 33 key passes – averaging more than two per La Liga start.

Alongside Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos, the former Tottenham Hotspur star is Real Madrid’s tempo setter and is busy linking the defence with the attack. The Croatian international averages 59 passes per game – with a success rate of 89.8%.

His importance has been noted by coaches and journalists alike. Speaking with the Spanish press, former Croatian international and Real Madrid star Predrag Mijatovic claimed the midfielder to be Los Blancos’ best player on par with Ronaldo – ahead of Xabi Alonso, Gareth Bale, Di Maria and Sergio Ramos, adding:

“Modric has collected all the details in the great Real. He is the boss of the midfield in the most complicated environment in the world because every day at Real the pressure is everywhere."

"Results and trophies are claimed, fans have the highest aesthetic criteria, and the media pressure is terrible."

"Modric not only withstands the pressure, but he has grown to be Real Madrid’s best player, along with Cristiano Ronaldo."

"As a fan of Real, it is clear that my desire is that Madrid wins the title. However, Barcelona have a brilliant team and for years they have been at a high level. Nevertheless, hopefully Real Madrid are champions. "
