According to reports, David Moyes faces competition from Serie A over the signature of Real Madrid defender.
Having already beaten Arsenal to the acquisition of Gonzalo Higuain, Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is looking to go two for two when it comes to competing against Premier League rivals for the purchasing of seemingly available Real Madrid players.
With just 36 hours remaining in the winter transfer window, Benitez may return to Real for sporadically used left back Fabio Coentrao, 25, a defender who came close to sealing a switch to Manchester United on the final day of trading in last summer's market.
A long-time target of David Moyes as the Scotman seeks to find a solution to his future left back problem, Coentrao has played in just 447 minutes of first-team football under Carlo Ancelotti's rule at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, as adventurous roamer Marcelo, of Brazil, has been preferred.
That has led to continual speculation linking the Portugal international with a move away from Madrid, with United and now - according to talkSPORT who quote Spanish sources - Napoli joining the list of potential destinations.
Coentrao is valued at £12.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk
