We are accustomed to Zlatan Ibrahimovic doing the extraordinary on the pitch. His overhead kick goal from 40 yards against England in 2012 for example. We are also accustomed to Zlatan making the headlines off the pitch. When asked about the SAS partnership at Liverpool, he reportedly said "Who is Sturridge?"
Therefore it comes as no surprise that Swedish car manufacturers Volvo have recruited their national hero to star in their latest advert. The advert celebrates all great things Swedish, including his wife Helena Seger.
Ibrahimovic has always come across as an ice-cool character and nothing seems to bother him. This advert further emphasises this as he jumps into a freezing lake to go swimming and he hikes and hunts in the glorious Swedish mountains.
Volvo tag the advert with the message "Sweden is our home. Mountains, vast forests, long distances, sun, rain, darkness, snow and ice."
"This inspires and challenges us when we develop our cars. The Swedish wilderness is our heritage and it is here we find our strength. Just like Zlatan Ibrahimović. This is our celebration of Sweden."
Certainly a different approach from the car manufacturers, but one that I'm sure will be appreciated in their homeland. One that will also appeal to any football fan as well. 'Ibra' is a fascinating character and that's what makes this advert intriguing.
