Colombian may pave way for Capoue to Napoli

Napoli's attempts to sign Tottenham midfielder Étienne Capoue remain in deadlock, but a part exchange deal may solve the problem.

Negotiations over Tottenham man Étienne Capoue have been slow and frustrating for both parties with no resolution having been found so far.

Although Capoue hasn't settled at White Hart Lane and manager Tim Sherwood believes him to be expendable, Spurs are reluctant to lower their valuation.

The latest reports suggest that Napoli are looking to pay around £8m, while Tottenham want closer to £12m and there has been very little movement in those figures over the last week.

According to Mediaset, the solution may lie with Napoli's Colombian left-back Pablo Armero, who could be offered as part of the deal.

The 27-year-old joined Napoli from Udinese this time last year, initially on loan but the deal was made permanent in the summer.

Although Armero's dazzling pace and relentless energy has won him plaudits, he isn't a key figure in Napoli's starting 11 but he may tempt Spurs into lowering their financial demands.

Napoli remain one of the most active Serie A sides in this winter transfer window. They have already signed Jorginho from Verona and are close to a deal for Faouzi Ghoulam of French side Saint-Étienne.

Coach Benitez has revealed that he has been promised a number of reinforcements by president Aurelio Del Laurentiis and the patron appears to be ready to put his money where his mouth is.
