Chelsea dominated the stats as they were held to a 0-0 draw by West Ham last night.
Jose Mourinho launched a critical attack against West Ham United after the Hammers held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League last night.
The result saw the Blues drop points to Arsenal and Manchester City, with City moving to the top on 53 points, Arsenal second on 52 points and Chelsea third with 50 points.
It was a frustrating evening for Chelsea in a match they dominated and really should have won.
“This is not the best league in the world, this is football from the 19th century. The only [other] thing I could bring was a Black and Decker [tool] to destroy the wall. It's very difficult to play a football match where only one team wants to play. It's very difficult,” said Mourinho after the game.
Chelsea dominated the stats with a staggering 72% of the ball throughout the game and an even more astonishing 39 shots on goal, with nine of those efforts on target.
It’s not a disastrous result for Chelsea by any means and they are still right in the title hunt ahead of the second part of the season.
The problem for Chelsea is that the two teams above them, in particular Manchester City, are building momentum and don’t look as though they are going to drop many points over the rest of the campaign.
Chelsea now head into a very important Monday night game against City, where they are unlikely to enjoy so much of the game in their favour.
That’s a game where Chelsea will have to replicate some of the qualities West Ham showed last night, digging in but showing a greater urgency to take more than just a point away from the Etihad Stadium.
Here’s what Chelsea fans made of their side’s performance last night via Twitter.
#CFC v WHU had 13 corners but didn't score. That seems a problem, even to know-nothing like me. Set pieces are catnip to winning clubs,no?— Futball Fan (@eurofutball) January 30, 2014
For me, there is differences between 'boring' and unlucky because more than 20 efforts from #CFC been blocked by West Ham United— Safiq Saharudin (@SafiqSaha) January 30, 2014
Could have won at least 2-0 yesterday though. Important points dropped at home. #cfc— P (@MyChelsFamily) January 30, 2014
We had 25 shots on goal, 6 on target, 0 goals! We need a striker so badly! i don't care if he can't play in champs league this season #cfc— Tushar Srivastava (@TusharChelsea) January 30, 2014
For all his tactical brilliance, Mourinho teams sometimes just can't find a way to score. Then blame the 19th century! #cfc— Devashish (@ChemicalGanga) January 30, 2014
Its nicely set up for the Man City vs Chelsea clash . If you want to be the best beat the best. Chelsea all the way #Chelsea— Basarashe Chikosi (@Basarashe) January 30, 2014
Its that time the relegation threatened teams spoil the party for the big boys. Last night Westham celebrated a draw like a win #Chelsea— Basarashe Chikosi (@Basarashe) January 30, 2014
#Chelsea's title hopes rest on the next game vs Man City. A must-win this one. No pressure, lads!— Mamta (@M4mta7) January 30, 2014
