Luis Suarez could nutmeg a mermaid.
During Liverpool’s all-important victory over geographical and Champions League placed rivals Everton the Anfield fans decided to show their appreciation for their idol Luis Suarez.
A banner reading ‘Luis Suarez could nutmeg a mermaid’ was visible to most at Anfield – a sign which was fit for the occasion as Suarez put on yet another footballing masterclass. A goal, an assist and a performance worthy of a MOTM award – would you have expected any less?
Suarez has been in phenomenal form this season since returning from his 10-game ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last season.
In 18 Premier League starts, Suarez has netted an incredible 23 goals – the best goals to game ratio in Europe’s top leagues. The 27-year-old has also shares top spot of Liverpool’s assist charts alongside Gerrard and Henderson with six – and has recorded 100 shots this season – the most in the Premier league.
Statistically, it would be difficult to currently find a better player in Europe. A fact which Liverpool clearly acknowledge.
The former Ajax forward has not been without controversy – however this season he has done well to put himself in the spotlight for his exceptional footballing ability only.
Towards the end of December, Liverpool made Suarez their highest paid player in history – with a reported weekly wage of £200,000 a week.
Unfortunately for The Reds, whilst the deal is said to include a £70m escape clause - should Luis Suarez continue his unbelievable form, that figure will start to look very tempting for La Liga giants Real Madrid next summer.
