Derby County chase loan deal for West Brom starlet

According to reports from Sky Sports, Derby County are in talks with West Bromwich Albion over a loan move for their 21-year-old midfielder George Thorne.

Promotion pushing Derby County could look to strengthen further this January, with the Rams reportedly interested in former England U20 midfielder George Thorne.

The West Bromwich Albion man was touted as one of the Baggies most promising players when he burst onto the scene in 2012, however, cruciate ligament damage has gone on to hinder his progress in the Black Country.

Upon returning to full fitness, it was Watford that won the services of the talented youngster and despite playing for the club under some turbulent times, he was one of the few players that could hold his head up high.

In the defensive midfielder's short spell at Vicarage Road, he showed glimpses of what he could bring to Championship football. He made on average 64.3 passes per game with an 80.2% pass accuracy, that average was enough to see him as the third highest passing player per game in the Championship.

With Steve McClaren reportedly in the market for a defensive midfielder, he would be hard pushed to find many better viable options.

The 21-year-old has already proven himself as a highly capable player in the English second tier and would undoubtedly boost the Rams chances of being promoted at the end of the season.
