Paul Lambert has revealed Aston Villa have been scouring Europe in search of targets as he seeks a playmaker before Friday's transfer deadline.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert revealed in his press conference ahead of Wednesday's derby against West Brom that there was nothing new to report on transfer speculation, leaving Villa fans eagerly watching the transfer clock countdown.
Villa have previously had a bid for West Hoolahan rejected, but Lambert reiterated that he is not the only option for the club and has other potential targets in mind.
''There's loads of names out there and players out there that we've looked at,'' said Lambert.
''We'll just have to keep on looking. We scour everywhere, Europe, everywhere. As I've said before the January window is a really touch window to do anything. But the two lads that have come in have been excellent for us.
''It is what it is at the minute. I've already brought in two lads, Grant Holt and Ryan Bertrand. The rest is what is was. We'll see what happens''
Although, the manager did admit that his phone has been busy with agents touting players, adding: ''it's usual stuff, year in year out. It won't change. Some of them are never realistic so you just put them to bed and go onto the realistic ones.''
However, one of the players he has already brought into the club has potentially opened the door to a longer stay in the West Midlands if the opportunity arises.
Talking to the Birmingham Mail, Bertrand said:
''I'm just here to concentrate on each game as it comes and to get back playing regularly.
''I'll leave all that stuff until the end of the season.
''You can't rule anything out. It's important, first and foremost, that my performances are good enough. I need to concentrate on each game''
And with the former Champions League winner already making a bid impression with fans, it could be one to look out for in the summer.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa have been linked to Bournemouth midfielder Eunan O'Kane, according to reports in The Mirror.
The former Everton trainee, 23, has been linked with a Premier League move previously and Villa look to be the latest in the queue. The midfielder has played 20 times for Bournemouth this season, scoring just the one goal and getting a solitary assist.
