Report - Barcelona star could walk away from the Nou Camp this summer

Isaac Cuenca

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool target Isaac Cuenca will consider his options this summer according to a Catalan newspaper.

Catalan based newspaper Sport have gone with a report on their website today which suggests Isaac Cuenca could leave Barcelona at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old attacking star hasn’t featured for Barca this season and has struggled to fulfil on his potential due to a mixture of inconsistency and injury problems which have held back his progress.

Sports suggests that Cuenca has decided to try and force his way into Gerardo Martino’s plans with Barcelona over the second half the season before assessing his options in the summer.

“The decision is taken, at least as far as the player is concerned, to stay until end of season,” reads a sentence of the report.

It could mean that a very talented player becomes available this summer, which will trigger bids and offers from a variety of different clubs across Europe.

Liverpool are one of the highest profile Premier League clubs to have had a reported interest in Cuenca and he fits the bill in terms of the sort of player Brendan Rodgers is building his team around at Anfield.

However, a fee will be involved and that’s where Arsenal and Chelsea can outmuscle the Merseyside club if they want to go after a target strongly connected with both clubs two to three years ago.

“The reason the club has given for not playing him is that his knee has not made a good recovery – the player believes the only way it can be proved not a problem is in a match, not just in training,” adds the report.

With the recent resurgence of Ibrahim Afellay in the Barcelona side and the abundance of midfield and attacking talent the Spanish champions enjoy, it’s difficult to see anything other than Cuenca leaving once the season is over.
