Previous reports have suggested Eden Hazard is a target for free-spending French side Paris Saint-Germain. And the rumours only intensified when France Football magazine mocked up a picture of the Belgian in a PSG shirt for their latest issue.
It was suggested the Ligue 1 champions would be prepared to pay €80million for the 23-year-old next summer; but now their president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has spoken about the rumours, and Chelsea fans may be about to breathe a sigh of relief as a result.
Sky Sports have published quotes from an interview Al-Khelaifi gave to L’Equipe, in which he said, “Eden Hazard is an amazing player and, in my opinion, the best player of Chelsea. But we never talked with him.
“In 2012, before he left for England, we had the opportunity to sign him, but we did not.
“Chelsea were in an advanced stage of negotiation and, as we don’t want to have any bad relationship with any club, we stopped there. He seems happy at Chelsea.”
So it appears, at least on the surface, that PSG have no intention of breaking the bank for a player who has excelled for Chelsea since his arrival. At least not for now…
