Manchester United transfer news: A tale of two left-backs; Moyes on more signings

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Manchester United

Reported Manchester United target Fabio Coentrao is back in the Spanish headlines this morning, with El Confidencial reporting that Real Madrid will not let him go this month.

This may not be news in itself, but it comes just days after reported interest from AC Milan, and quotes from Carlo Ancelotti in which he said, “Coentrao will make competition on the left side”.

With the former Chelsea boss seemingly unwilling to let the Portuguese left-back leave despite his failure to feature as a regular first-choice, it is no surprise United are said to have turned their attention to Luke Shaw.

But the Mirror published a fresh story late last night claiming the Southampton man will hold out for a Chelsea move, even if he has to wait until next summer.

It was claimed United made a £22million bid for the teenager last week, but the same paper that made that claim suggests Shaw only has eyes for Chelsea.

And finally, Juan Mata may be the only January arrival at Old Trafford…or he may not.

Speaking to ITV yesterday, David Moyes said of the possibility of further signings this month, “I would say no. I have said no, I don’t think I will. But if something happens I will soon let you know.”

You sense the United boss is still busy behind the scenes, but with just three days of this transfer window remaining, he will have to work faster than ever to secure another deal before Janaury makes way for February.
