Manchester United won 2-0 against Cardiff City at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
Striker Robin van Persie marked his return to the team with a goal in the sixth minute to open the scoring for the champions.
Club record signing Juan Mata made his debut in the win and earned his first start as a Manchester United player from the boss.
The Spanish midfielder said he was ‘excited’ and praised Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney as two of the best strikers in the world as both made their comebacks form injury, the number 10 from the bench.
"We are talking about two of the best strikers in the world," he said after last night's match.
"They are unbelievable. Hopefully they will score a lot of goals until the end of the season."
"It was very exciting for me. To be honest - this is unbelievable, the fans are unbelievable. I'm very happy with the team, the lads. They welcomed me very very good. So I'm looking forward to playing more and helping the team," he added.
The game also saw the emotional return to Old Trafford for legendary striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of the opposition. The Norwegian seemed in good spirits despite the defeat that leaves his side bottom of the Premier League.
In his post-match press conference manager David Moyes admitted the ‘mood’ has improved at Old Trafford since the signing of Juan Mata, as well as his own mood.
"Has my mood improved? Yes because I know that I have some really good players coming back," Moyes said.
"But I still want to be more convincing. I want to win better and want to play much better so don't think because I've won tonight that that means that I've got a smile and I'm happy.”
In transfer news, reports today claim United have ‘failed’ in bids to sign Portuguese internationals Fernando and Fabio Coentrao. David Moyes reported launched a ‘probe’ to see if summer target Coentrao could be prized away from Real Madrid this month as well as making his interest known at Porto for midfielder Fernando.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola ‘hinted’ United target Toni Kroos could leave the Bundesliga champions. This follows on from the 24-year-old German international’s comments this week that he was open to leave the Allianz Arena.
In other news, United are preparing a world record kit deal worth £65 million a year as Adidas, Warrior and Puma have all been offered to replace Nike as the club’s official shirt supplier.
