Fulham boss confirms Milan's Taarabt interest

Adel Taarabt

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen has admitted that AC Milan are keen to sign on-loan midfielder Adel Taarabt.

Rene Meulensteen dropped Adel Taarabt for Fulham's 2-0 defeat against Swansea last night as he felt the player had been distracted by transfer rumours.

There have been reports in Italy that AC Milan were determined to sign Taarabt and are working on an exchange deal that will see defender Cristian Zaccardo move the other way.

The deal is made more complicated by the fact that Taarabt is only on loan at Fulham and is owned by Queens Park Rangers, meaning it would be an exchange of loans.

But it appears that the Italian media speculation is based on the truth as manager Meulensteen confirmed that Milan are in the frame for Taarabt's signature.

"There has been some interest," the Dutch boss said. "But I have no concrete news - that is all I know so far."

The Italian press today are reporting that former QPR owner Flavio Briatore is playing an important role in the prospective deal.

Briatore is a good friend of AC Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi and has reportedly recommended that he should sign Taarabt having seen his potential when he owned QPR.

Clarence Seedorf is trying to rebuild Milan having taken over a struggling squad and he has already added Michael Essien to the squad after agreeing a deal with Chelsea.

World Cup winner Zaccardo, who could make his way to Craven Cottage, has become a peripheral figure at Milan since signing from Parma last year and could relish the chance of some regular first-team football.
