Balotelli: Only two England players would make Italy squad

AC Milan marksman Mario Balotelli has stirred tensions by claiming that only two England players would make Italy's World Cup squad.

Italy and England will face off in this summer's World Cup and Mario Balotelli has no doubt which side are stronger.

The ever-controversial AC Milan striker has stressed his belief that Italy are superior by stating that only two England players would even be picked for Italy's squad.

Balotelli praises former teammate Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney but doesn't believe the rest of England's players are a threat.

"Rooney I am sure would get in any squad that will be in Brazil - he is one of those few special players," he is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"I know that Joe Hart is one of the top five goalkeepers in the world - there is no argument about that. He had some games that he would not have been pleased with earlier this season but the best players in the world hit some bad form.

"Both Rooney and Joe are of the highest quality but once you look past those two I don't see an obvious player from England that would make the Italy team or even squad.

"'We have some of the top players in Europe and that is why we expect to beat England and win the group."

The last time the two sides squared off Italy triumphed 4-2 on penalties at Euro 2012 and they will cross swords once more in Manaus on June 14.
