Following yet more injuries in midfield for Arsenal – along with the suspension of Mathieu Flamini – there was always a question as to whether the Gunners would attempt some last-minute winter shopping for a player not called Julian Draxler.
And it appears they are doing just that, with Goal reporting that the current Premier League leaders have contacted Paris Saint-Germain today to discuss the possibility of bringing Blaise Matuidi to the Emirates Stadium.
Matuidi is a 26-year-old French international who is in the final year of his contract. He is also a player who has made headlines after PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told L’Equipe he would advise clubs against moving for his players – after Manchester City were heavily linked with the same player.
Goal reports that Arsenal are willing to pay what they call “a significant fee” for a player who will be a free-agent in just a few months.
They also state that the Ligue 1 champions have not yet ruled out the move.
So while all eyes have been on Germany and Arsenal’s reported pursuit of Draxler, it could be a player from France who arrives at the Gunners before the weekend.
