According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are looking to add Yevhen Konoplyanka to their ranks before the January transfer window deadline on Friday.
The 24-year-old Ukrainian international can operate both through the middle and on the flanks and featured for the Ukraine national side during their World Cup Qualifying games against England.
Konoplyanka currently plays for Ukrainian side Dnipro and has a reported release clause of £15m – a figure which certainly wouldn’t put Liverpool off.
Following Chelsea’s signing of Mohamed Salah, Brendan Rodgers has bemoaned his side’s lack of activity during the January transfer window.
Nevertheless, the Liverpool manager has promised to keep working hard and looking to bring in a player before the deadline ends on Friday – claiming that he is very hopeful of securing a deal.
“Hopefully we'll do something over the next few days.”
“The only thing I would mention is the headlines after the press conference yesterday with the manager being angry with the club. It's far from the truth.”
That deal is presumably for the Ukrainian international – as his father Oleg admitted as much to a Ukrainian media outlet:
“I do not want to say specifically but the information about a transfer to the English club is true.”
“He can change clubs later this week. We do not consider offers from Ukraine.”
However, according to new reports in Ukraine – Tottenham Hotspur have shown an 11th hour interest and a potential Mohamed Salah transfer fiasco could be repeated.
Sources close the Russian border suggest that Tim Sherwood’s men are willing to pay the £15m release clause and bring the player to North London.
After reportedly being gazumped for players such as Henrikh Mykhitaryan, Mohamed Salah plus an interest in Brazilian Willian – Liverpool can’t afford to let another potential diamond slip through their grasps.
