Federico Macheda is a forgotten man at Manchester United and is almost certain to leave when his contract expires this summer, but probably not before.
Macheda was a child prodigy and United pounced to snap him up at the age of 16, but he hasn't been able to thrive at Old Trafford.
Having spent time on loan to Sampdoria, Queens Park Rangers, Stuttgart and Doncaster Rovers, Macheda seems keen to return to his homeland.
The player's agent has asked the club if they will release him before his contract ends, but it seems that won't be happening.
While there is reported interest from various Italian clubs, including former side Sampdoria and Sassuolo, they may have to wait until June.
"It will be difficult for Macheda to leave United at this last stage of the winter window. There are Italian clubs interested but in order to sign him now and not when he's a free agent it will require a serious project and at least a three-year contract."
