Usually coy, Arsene Wenger didn't get everything about his transfer plans away tonight - but he provided a glimpse.
That snapshot was enough to show that the Frenchman is hopeful deals can be struck and the club are working on them.
He told the Associated Press:
Wenger: "I hope we have something to tell you (on signings by Friday)"— Rob Harris (@RobHarris) January 28, 2014
His tone was in direct contrast to the likes of Jose Mourinho and Tim Sherwood of Chelsea and Tottenham, who both today (Tuesday) declared neither club have any intention of making any extra signings.
A bluff, perhaps - but in Arsenal's case, supporters can take it as a positive sign.
The extra transfer intrigue comes in the form of an injury to Aaron Ramsey, who will miss 4-6 weeks including Champions League matches against Bayern Munich.
Arsenal are well covered in midfield but with Mathieu Flamini set to miss Premier League games with Liverpool and Manchester United via suspension too, he could be tempted if there is a long-term target which is available.
The main area Arsenal need to add is up front, with playmaker Julian Draxler linked most prominently, but Schalke are keen not to sell.
Arsenal pulled a deal out of the bag at the last minute last season in Nacho Monreal, and there could be similar excitement late on this year.
