We ran a poll yesterday asking fans whether they thought Jose Mourinho would regret selling Juan Mata to Chelsea.
The results are in and they are unanimous with 73% of those who voted suggesting the decision will come back to haunt the Portuguese coach.
Mourinho’s reasoning for the deal is logical and understandable. Chelsea couldn’t turn down that amount of cash for Mata and the player specifically expressed it was a move he wanted.
Mata could make his Manchester United debut this evening against Cardiff City as the Premier League returns following the drama of the FA Cup last weekend, with United fans hoping he can play a big role.
Chelsea fans may still feel slightly confused by the decision to let Mata leave, as he was the club’s player of the season for two years on the bounce.
He accumulated 25 assists and scored 18 goals over the course of the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons but for whatever reason, Mourinho didn’t want to use him regularly in the side in the current campaign.
However, the Blues retain a very good squad and they have a world class playmaker in the form of Oscar, adding Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah to the squad, while David Moyes goes about a big rebuilding process at Manchester United.
