Report: Three-sided battle for Kaboul

Kaboul And Gallas

It seems that Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul is popular in Italy with reports suggesting that three top Serie A clubs want to sign him.

Over the last few weeks there have been rumours that Fiorentina are hoping to sign Tottenham man Younes Kaboul and now two other Serie A sides may have also declared their interest in him.

Centre-back Kaboul is in his second spell at Spurs with a two-year spell at Portsmouth in between and he is just returning from a long-term thigh injury.

Manager Tim Sherwood has stressed the importance of not rushing the 28-year-old back to action but has publicly stated that he believes Kaboul will be an asset for the remainder of the season.

However, according to Il Messaggero, AC Milan and Roma, in addition to Fiorentina, are hoping they can persuade Sherwood to part with Kaboul.

Roma are close to agreeing a deal for Everton man John Heitinga, but Il Messaggero insists that the Giallorossi see Kaboul as an alternative.

Milan are trying to rejuvenate the squad under new coach Clarence Seedorf and have just added Michael Essien to the ranks, but their defence remains a source of anxiety.

Fiorentina have been linked with a number of defenders as they aim to secure a Champions League place for next season.

The Viola, like Milan, reportedly set their sights on Manchester United star Nemanja Vidic but weren't able to afford his wages.

While Kaboul would certainly be a cheaper option, it seems unlikely that Spurs will be willing to let him leave, especially this soon after welcoming him back from an extended injury layoff.
