Newcastle United fans react to de Jong, Cabaye reports on Twitter: Another John Dahl Tomasson?

Magpies supporters have flocked to social media to express their opinions on the comings and goings at St James Park.

Recently, Alan Pardew expressed his concerns that speculation linking France midfielder Yohan Cabaye with a Tyneside exit could become reality on deadline day, leaving the Englishman with little time to find a suitable replacement for Newcastle United before the mid-season transfer window closes for trading.

Since then, he 28-year-old has all but had his switch from St James Park to Paris Saint Germain confirmed, with the BBC reporting that a £19m fee (potentially rising to £20m) has been agreed upon - a sizable increase from the £14m offer that had been rejected, before.

One Newcastle supporter, though, does not believe the club need to delve into the market in order to find a midfield recruit as, providing Hatem Ben Arfa can step up, then they have a replacement in-house. Another bemoaned the negotiating process, implying that Newcastle should be receiving more than the figures been reported on by the press (ranging from £16.5m to the aforementioned more likely £19m).

While the club will be waving goodbye to one exceptional performer, the fanbase are hoping that another will be heading in their direction - with Luuk de Jong, a Dutch international who joins Newcastle on a temporary basis after being frozen out of first-team affairs at Borussia Monchengladbach, due to imminently complete his switch as he attends a medical examination today, Tuesday.

De Jong's arrival has split Magpies fans, though, with some pointing to his inconsistent goal-scoring prowess as evidence he may not prove to be a season-defining acquisition, while others nod to his ratings on erstwhile versions of the video game FIFA.
