Quite often you hear those footballers lucky enough to have played alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi commentate on their ‘luck’, ‘joy’ or indeed ‘pleasure’ at playing with such great talents.
However when Gervinho was flogged by Arsenal in the summer of 2013 we doubt any Arsenal fan ever believed that he would end up being one of those players - that his team-mates talk of with such unadulterated flattery.
But since the error prone Ivorian made his way to the exit door at The Emirates his career trajectory has rocketed sky high - without as much as a glance in the rear-view mirror.
Gervinho was sold to AS Roma in the summer after his former Lille coach Rudi Garcia took over the Giallorossi - and insisted on bringing in the player who cost Arsenal £10.8 million.
He has gone on to help Roma fly out the blocks this season and has even been dubbed ‘the African Messi’ by a local journalist.
And now, another summer signing for Roma has been singing his praises.
Roma beat Hellas Verona 3-1 at the weekend - with Gervinho the star of the show once again.
He scored one and provided the assist for the opening goal of the game - which was scored by former Manchester United prospect Adem Ljajic.
Ljajic was never officially signed by United. They tried and failed to bring him in back in 2009 but after he was denied a Work Permit by the Home Office he moved on - joining Fiorentina instead.
This summer he moved to the capital for €11 million and is just starting to find his feet.
"It's very difficult to find spaces; they are all in defence and defend well. We scored and then everything became easier because they will attack and there will be more openings. And it is certainly nice to play around a player like Gervinho. "
