Can Cabaye deal open door for Manchester City target's exit?

Newcastle look set to bid farewell to midfielder Yohan Cabaye who has been the subject of an offer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Magpies have accepted the £23 million bid from the Ligue 1 champions who are set to bring the 28-year-old playmaker back to his native France.

He will arrive in the French capital to join a star-studded PSG squad packed with talent under manager Laurent Blanc but the club have still yet to tie up the future of central midfielder Blaise Matuidi whose contract expires in less than six months.

The 26-year-old France international has been linked with a number of potential moves in recent weeks after failing to cement his place in the first team ahead of the World Cup this summer in Brazil.

After being linked with Premier League champions Manchester United who had looked to sign a midfielder who can score and create goals, the Red Devils turned their attention to Juan Mata who was unveiled on Monday as their club record signing for £37.1 million from Chelsea.

However, their archrivals Manchester City are rumoured to be preparing an £8 million bid to bring the contract rebel to the Etihad in their hopes of reclaiming the Premier League title.

The imminent arrival of his compatriot Cabaye at the Parc des Princes could be a green light for Matuidi to make his exit in search of more regular first team opportunities.

PSG will also need to offset their £23 million outlay for Cabaye and logic would suggest selling a player such as Matuidi may be the way forward for Laurent Blanc ahead of imminent implementation of Financial Fair Play regulations.
