Reports earlier this month claimed the agent of Lazio midfielder Hernanes was in England to hold talks with interested parties – said to be Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
The player was claimed to be looking for a new opportunity with his Italian side reportedly ready to accept no less than €15million for him.
But then it all went quiet, until now, with Sambafoot reporting quotes from Lazio’s president Claudio Lotito in which he denies claims Inter Milan have now bid €17million for Hernanes.
“They can buy his left foot for that,” he is reported to have told Mediaset, in one sentence proving that the earlier claims of an acceptable bid were some way wide of the mark.
“We are talking about a player who is not for sale,” Lotito added.
“Hernanes is a great player and a great talent, so therefore Lazio do not have him on the market.
So it looks as though any hopes Tottenham or United had of signing the 28-year-old Brazilian have been dashed.
Well, not quite, because the Lazio president ended by saying, “We are not looking for buyers, but if any offers do arrive we will evaluate them at that moment.”
You just sense it will take an almighty bid to get him, and both David Moyes and Tim Sherwood may feel there is better value to be had elsewhere, especially given that they already have Juan Mata and Christian Eriksen respectively.
